Couch art is how I create a lot of my artwork!

It was born of my love of movies, tv shows, and the comfortable corner of my couch where I do a lot of my work. Why not be comfortable while working, huh? I started by bringing a few supplies out with me, then a baggie of supplies, then a shoebox. It grew into a supply box and is now a multi-compartment Smart Box from The Container Store.

Because of my FMS and arthritis, I can't sit in a desk chair for long periods of time. I find I need to take breaks and that breaks the creative flow. When I am working somewhere comfortable, such as the couch or in bed, I can sink into the creativity and work for hours! I've learned new ways to work with my favorite materials so I don't need much, and won't be making a mess. This method of working is great if you have limited mobility, a draining job, or don't have a studio space!

It all starts with a Couch Box...

A couch box contains all your favorite, portable supplies. Add in pens, pencils, markers, stencils, glue, scissors, paint, crayons, stamps, and more! Use media that are easy to use without a table, such as watercolor crayons/pencils, colored pencils, and stamps. Combine it with paper to collage and a glue-stick, and you're ready to go!

I find when I create where I'm comfortable, I create more! A journal and pencils while watching a movie means more sketches and doodles than if I kept the art in my studio space. A box of crayons means I add more color to pages done on the go. Stamps and tapes let me embellish while I relax after a long day.

Couch art redefines where you think art can be created. And by limiting your supplies in a Couch Box, you're forced to think outside, well, the box! Discover new ways to use old materials and mediums. Limits help so much in expanding your creativity and journaling!
